HVBC is filled with families from many different backgrounds. It is amazing how God has led some people here is another way we see that God is doing something special. Here are just two of the many stories on how these families found their church home.
- 800 Miles to Church ?
The Lord added another new family to HVBC in a very unusal way. Through a string of special circumstances, the Hawthorne family felt led by God to join Hunt Valley Baptist Church. By itself, their decision was not unsual. People join churches all the time. But the Hawthorne family lived 800 miles away in Centralia, Illinois! In order for them to follow through with what they felt God was leading them to do, the family would have to sell their home, leave Mr. Hawthorne’s lucrative job behind, and step out on faith to move to Baltimore. After some deliberation and a lot of prayer, the Hawthornes followed God’s direction and moved to Baltimore. So, why did they move 800 miles to join a church? It wasn’t for a better job. It wasn’t for better fringe benefits (their income actually dropped 40% because of the move). The Hawthornes moved because they believed that putting God first and attending the right church is more important than material things. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
- From Sam's Club to Heaven
In miraculous ways, God has led many families to Hunt Valley Baptist Church. One example is the Yoon family. One afternoon, Mrs. Yoon was handed a church brochure in the parking lot of Sam’s Club in Cockeysville. After she showed it to her husband, the family made the decision to start attending Hunt Valley Baptist Church. One by one, each family member came to know the Lord as Saviour, and joined the church. It is an amazing thought—an entire family saved, baptized, and added to the church... and it all started in the parking lot at Sam’s Club.
